Autonomous Workflow

An end-to-end operational process executed by agents without human intervention.

Autonomous Workflow is an operational sequence of tasks that is planned, managed, and executed entirely by AI agents without human intervention. The system dynamically adapts its steps based on intermediate data results.

How it Works

Autonomous workflows replace static, hard-coded scripts with dynamic agent planning loops.

  • Goal-Directed Planning: Parses a high-level goal (e.g., “identify and alert on anomalous transactions”) into a sequence of logical tasks.
  • Dynamic Routing: Uses conditional loops to evaluate outputs (e.g., if a query returns results exceeding a threshold, the workflow triggers a follow-up analysis).
  • Automated Execution: Calls system APIs, runs data pipelines, and formats results to complete tasks without waiting for manual confirmation.

Lakehouse & Agentic Relevance

In a data lakehouse, workflows often involve complex data transformation, quality checks, and reporting. Autonomous workflows allow agents to manage these operational tasks independently. For example, an agent can detect a partition performance drop, trigger a compaction job on an Iceberg table, and verify the query acceleration results. Dremio enables this autonomy by exposing REST APIs and unified SQL views, allowing agents to execute and monitor operations seamlessly.
